Hawkeye Episode 4 Connects to an MCU Movie’s Post-Credits Scene

Hawkeye hasn’t been shy about connecting the show to the MCU’s past, but Episode 4 goes a step further, connecting it directly to the post-credits scene from a previous movie by introducing a new character.

This article contains spoilers for Hawkeye Episode 4, ‘Partners, Am I Right?’ If you haven’t seen the episode, check back now!

In the climactic fight scene of the episode, a masked figure is revealed as Florence Pugh’s Yelena Belova, the sister of Natasha Romanoff, also known as Black Widow.

The last time we saw Yelena was in the post-credits scene in the movie Black Widow. He was visiting Natasha’s grave, before meeting Julia Louis-Dreyfuss’s Contessa Valentina Allegra de Fontaine, who asks if she wants to “shoot the man responsible for her sister’s death,” before handing her a photograph of Jeremy’s Clint Barton. Renner (which, as those who have seen Avengers: Endgame know, is not really the truth).

In an episode featuring various moments of Barton struggling to come to terms with Natasha’s death, Yelena’s introduction looks like things are about to get harder for Clint before they get easier.

Despite expecting Yelena to appear at some point, many may have been hoping for a very different cameo to appear in this episode. Vincent D’Onofrio’s Kingpin is rumored to appear, and this episode features multiple veiled references to someone at the top of a criminal organization, someone known as “the big guy.” However, we will wait at least another week for that possible reintroduction.

Yelena’s comeback marks the first major crossover between the MCU’s Phase 4 projects, but we hope that she will also make the first connections with some of the MCU’s older Netflix shows. After all, we now know that Charlie Cox will one day return as Daredevil as well.
