Watford agree deal to sign Vakoun Issouf Bayo from Charleroi

Issouf Bayo, eleven of Celtic, is a forward who managed seven goals in 12 appearances while on loan at Charleroi last season.

The 25-year-old also has two caps for the Ivory Coast.

However, Charleroi then exercised an option to buy the player from Gent at the end of the season, which they announced on May 16, signing the player to a four-year deal. Watford subsequently purchased the forward from Charleroi.

Gareth Southgate given FA backing after Hungary defeat and tough run of results

The Football Association have spoken to Gareth Southgate and given him their backing after England’s difficult run of results over the recent international break.

England fell to their worst home defeat for 94 years when they lost 4-0 to Hungary earlier this month. They also lost to Hungary away and drew against Italy and Germany in their Nations League clashes, leaving them bottom of their group.

Southgate, who led England to the Euro 2020 final and the World Cup semi-final in 2018, was vocally criticized at Molineux in Wolverhampton.

News: Barcelona to play at Olympic Stadium during Camp Nou renovation

Barcelona will play at the city’s Olympic Stadium during the 2023-24 season while Camp Nou is renovated as part of the club’s ‘Espai Barca’ plans.

The project, described by president Joan Laporta as “vital for the club’s viability”, will see a redevelopment of both the Camp Nou and the wider Barcelona campus.

Barcelona will continue playing at the Camp Nou next season, but will relocate afterwards to Estadi Olimpic Lluis Companys for one season.

Laporta said: “Barcelona will have the privilege to play at the Estadi Olimpic Lluis Companys in the 2023-24 season during the recently approved Espai Barca work.

“Work begins on the first and second levels this summer and when major work is done on the third level and roof, we’ll play here.”

News: Freddie Woodman close to Preston move with Newcastle eyeing goalkeeper rejig

Freddie Woodman is close to joining Preston North End, as Newcastle United begin to revamp their goalkeeping contingent.

The 25-year-old is set to undergo a medical in Lancashire ahead of signing a deal that is expected to become permanent, given he is about to enter the final year of his Newcastle contract.

Woodman, the son of former Newcastle goalkeeper coach Andy, has been on Tyneside since 2013 and has long been viewed as a future No 1. However, having made just four league appearances for Newcastle, all at the start of last season, he is keen for regular game-time elsewhere.

Premier League: How TV broadcasters pick matches to show live

Announcements about which games have been selected to be shown live on TV are often followed by sets of supporters complaining their team has been overlooked again. Some may point out how a kick-off time suits the audience watching from their sitting room but makes traveling for the away fans nigh-on impossible due to motorway closures or a limited number of trains. Others are just convinced there is a vendetta against their side.

But how are TV matches selected? The Athletic explains all…

ICYMI: Ryan Giggs steps down as Wales manager

Rob Page has taken charge of the Wales national side since Giggs was arrested in November 2020.

Giggs said in a statement released on Monday: “After much consideration, I am standing down from my position as manager of the Wales men’s national team with immediate effect.

“It has been an honor and a privilege to manage my country, but it is only right that the Wales FA, the coaching staff and the players prepare for the tournament with certainty, clarification and without speculation around the position of their head coach.

“As has been well publicized, I have pleaded not guilty to the criminal accusations being heard at Manchester Crown Court.

“While I am confident in our judicial process, I had hoped that the case would have been heard earlier to enable me to resume my managerial responsibilities.

“Through nobody’s fault the case has been delayed.

“I do not want the country’s preparations for the World Cup to be affected, destabilized or jeopardized in any way by the continued interest around this case.”

ICYMI: Johnstone joining Crystal Palace

Sam Johnstone has agreed to a four-year deal to join Crystal Palace when he becomes a free agent on July 1.

Palace made their interest known earlier this month but negotiations were only resolved last week.

Patrick Vieira’s side are due back for pre-season training on June 27, but it remains to be seen whether Johnstone will join in on the first few sessions given he is still technically employed by West Bromwich Albion until June 30.

The England international, who earned the most recent of his three England caps in a World Cup qualifying win over Andorra last October, will become the club’s first signing of the summer.

Who was Granovskaia?

“I have been blown away, to be honest. She was amazing. Incredibly warm, personable and straight as an arrow. But she’s a silent assassin. You sit down, she makes you feel as though you are winning and that you are loved, but she is draining your blood without you realizing.

One of the Premier League’s leading executives is explaining what it is like to do business with the woman who runs Chelsea on a day-to-day basis.

Her name is Marina Granovskaia and, if it is not a name you immediately recognize, that is precisely because she has chosen for it to be that way.

ICYMI: Marina Granovskaia set to leave Chelsea this week

Chelsea manager Marina Granovskaia is set to leave the Premier League club this week, The Athletic understands.

Granovskaia, who has worked at Chelsea since 2003, will follow chairman Bruce Buck out of Stamford Bridge as the club’s new regime takes shape.

Chelsea are understood to be in the process of finalizing her exit.

New co-owner Todd Boehly is likely to fill the void left by both Buck and Granovskaia when the key Chelsea duo depart in the near future.

Granovskaia had acted as Chelsea’s main transfer negotiator under Roman Abramovich in recent years.
