Spider-Man: No Way Home’s Zendaya commends fans for putting forth creative theories about MJ’s fate in the upcoming MCU movie.
Spider-Man: No Way Home Star Zendaya praised the fan creative theories she heard from fans in a new interview with co-stars Tom Holland and Jacob Batalon.
“People are so creative, honestly,” said the MJ actor. Extra while discussing fan theories that Andrew Garfield’s Spider-Man traps her in the movie and reports that MJ actually dies. When Holland interrupted her to joke that MJ actually dies in the movie, Zendaya added, “There you go. Yeah, who knows!”
Zendaya continued to laugh at various No way home fan theories after being pressed about whether she heard any that are actually correct, noting: “I’ve seen fan theories that are so wrong, that they are right. I’ve seen fan theories that are so correct, that they are wrong.” Holland, who has had his fair share of spoiler errors during his tenure in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, was quick to compliment Zendaya on her answer, saying, “That was an expert answer. That was well done.”
Zendaya’s comments on fan theories came during the same interview in which Holland was forced to clarify comments he previously made about being too old to play Spider-Man when he turns 30. He said that if he was playing Spider-Man when he was 30 he had done something wrong, it’s because he would be taking the opportunity for someone to come in and change what it means to be Spider-Man, “the actor explained.” You know, Spider-Man could be more diverse, it could be a female character, it could be anything. So that’s what he was saying. “
While it is not yet clear if Garfield will catch, or even appear in No way home, Zendaya recently confirmed that she had to catch Holland in the middle of filming a stunt. “Spider-Man takes us up on a bridge and places me there … So he’s supposed to gently rest MJ on the bridge and walk away from her,” the actor explained during a television appearance this week. “I’d land before him because obviously my feet hit the ground before him.” The pair then proceeded to hilariously act out what the catch looked like.
Beyond fan theories about MJ’s fate, another recent fan theory from Reddit user TheMediocreCritic suggested that not all Spider-Man villains return in No way home it will actually be bad. Meanwhile, an additional theory assumed that, based on the No way home trailers, the villains will take advantage of technology created by the late Tony Stark.
Spider-Man: No Way Home hits theaters on December 17.
